Flying to Madang
I've spent this week in the town of Madang, on the north coast of New Guinea, at a Bible Agencies Forum. The meeting included 11 people, representing SIL, Pioneer Bible Translators, the Bible Society of PNG, and the Bible Translation Association of PNG. It's been a time of sharing what each of our organizations has been doing for the past year. We've also had presentations on current issues that are relevant to all of us--such as copyright, print and media distribution strategies, mapping, and an upcoming project for revising the Tok Pisin Bible. As always in such gatherings, the conversations at coffee breaks and meals have been as valuable as the scheduled agenda items.
But since pictures of 11 people sitting around a table in a conference room wouldn't be especially interesting visually, I'll include some pictures from my flight to Madang on Wednesday morning. Seeing Papua New Guinea from the air is a tremendous experience, and even the short flight from the Highlands (where our family is based) to coastal Madang offers a range of different vistas.
Our organization's Aviation department has a small fleet of Kodiak airplanes--a new plane designed especially for use in rugged, rural areas such as PNG:
The dramatic transition from the mountainous Highlands to the coastal plains:
