Updates from August

A few weeks ago the weekly photo theme was "Time." I set up a tripod on the front porch, took a picture every half-hour from 5:30 in the morning until 7:30 in the evening, and then combined all the pictures into one. In the final photo, each ring, starting with the moon, is a half-hour later than the one before. So that's what a whole day looked like from our house.

It reminds me that it is time for an update on what's been happening here this month. In the previous post, I talked about three things, and I can now update you on all of them.

Newton and the Nai language translation team

I'm very happy to report that Newton and the other Nai translators, from the Sepik region of PNG, were able to finish the translation of Revelation, get it checked and approved by a translation consultant, and record an audio version of the entire book. That audio file is loaded onto portable audio players that will be distributed among the whole language group. Praise God that people in the Nai area will have such great access to such a large part of the New Testament!

Training Centre building project

The new building at the Ukarumpa Training Centre was slightly delayed when a provincial zoning board meeting didn't happen as scheduled in June. But the approval to go ahead with the building project came through in July, and earlier this month we held a dedication ceremony for the new building. On a fresh Monday morning, a bunch of us gathered around the foundation site and prayed together over the new building. I shared a short devotional and prayer, and then we placed favorite Bible verses onto the foundation. After the ceremony, the cement mixer started up and the foundation is now complete. Thanks for continuing to pray for the next stages of construction.

Office repainting

When I last wrote, the office building that my team and I work in was in the midst of being repainted. That job is now finished, and the building looks better than ever.

Coming up...

In the next post, I'll mention some other projects I've been working on this month, including a new songbook for the Urim language group in the East Sepik Province.
