Another school year concludes

This week was the end of the school year at Ukarumpa. That means end-of-class parties for the kids (including a day at the water slide for Cameron's 4th grade class), and other special activities. Monday night we attended the Secondary Campus Awards Night, where James was recognized for having the highest grades in almost all of his classes, as well as being chosen by teachers as the runner-up for the Middle School Boys Citizenship Award.

Then Tuesday night was graduation. Each year the graduating seniors choose musicians to play prelude music at the ceremony. Last year Joyce played a selection of hymn arrangements. This year, Joyce and I were both among those asked to play, so we each performed a couple of hymn arrangements.

This time of year in Ukarumpa is also known for the many good-byes that have to be said as families depart for furloughs or, in some cases, forever. It adds an extra layer of emotion, especially for the graduating seniors as they farewell each other and their Ukarumpa life.

One year from today it will be our turn to say good-bye to Ukarumpa. We'll write more about that soon... For now, we're enjoying the beginning of the 5-week school break.
