Traveling back to Papua New Guinea

What is it like traveling to the other side of the world? It's . . . long. Not as long as going by boat, as missionaries and fieldworkers did until relatively recently. But flying from Chicago to London to Singapore to Sydney--which is the portion of the trip we've now completed--has meant nearly 30 hours in airplanes (747s), about 15 hours waiting in airports, and many security and customs lines. There's no way to make this trip completely comfortable, but we're definitely enjoying having older kids who can entertain themselves, sleep on planes, and enjoy new sights and experiences. Because the kids are a little older this time around, and we want to take advantage of our amazing opportunities to see other parts of the world, we scheduled a few days' layover in Sydney, Australia. In addition to giving us the chance to explore this beautiful city, it has also given us time to get over the jetlag, so we'll be at full strength when we get back to Ukarumpa and unpack, setting up our house there again.

Enjoy some pictures from our travels this week.
